10 Signs You’re Officially an Old Cunt
There comes a point in every person’s life when a good night out becomes a logistical nightmare, a new vacuum cleaner feels genuinely exciting and loud music stops being fun and starts being a fucking nuisance.
You might still feel 25 in your head, but your knees, bedtime and sudden interest in air fryers suggest otherwise.
Not sure whether you’ve crossed over into old-cunt territory yet? Here are 10 undeniable signs.
1. You get genuinely excited about appliances
Once upon a time, you spent your birthday money on clothes, booze and questionable decisions. Now you’re absolutely thrilled because someone bought you a cordless stick vacuum.
You’ve watched three online reviews, compared the battery life and demonstrated the suction power to anyone unlucky enough to visit.
And don’t even get us started on the air fryer. You tell everyone it’s “changed your life” as though you didn’t just use it to cook six nuggets.
2. You complain about how loud everything is
Pubs. Restaurants. Concerts. The television. Children. The neighbours. Someone chewing crackers three rooms away.
Why is everyone yelling? Why is the music so loud? Why can’t anybody just sit down and have a nice bloody conversation?
The horrifying truth is that the volume probably hasn’t changed. You have.
3. A night out requires three business days of recovery
You used to go out on Friday, back it up on Saturday and turn up to work on Monday looking vaguely human.
Now, four drinks and a midnight bedtime leave you fighting for your life until Wednesday.
You wake up with a dry mouth, a sore back and seventeen new reasons never to drink again. Your hangovers don’t last for hours anymore. They have last days.
4. You have a favourite supermarket
Not only do you have a favourite supermarket, you have a preferred time to visit, a carefully planned route through the aisles and strong opinions about which checkout moves fastest.
If they rearrange the store, your entire week is fucked.
And yes, you’ve probably told someone about an excellent special on washing powder recently.
5. You make noises every time you sit down or stand up
Sitting down: “Oof.”
Standing up: “Righto.”
Bending over: “Oh, fuck me.”
At some point, your body installed its own sound effects and nobody knows how to switch them off. You’re not necessarily in pain. The noise just appears now.
6. Your ideal birthday celebration is being left the fuck alone
Big party? Crowded bar? Surprise guests? Absolutely not.
Your dream birthday now involves comfortable pants, good food, a drink at home and nobody asking you to go anywhere after 8 pm.
You don’t need a huge fuss. You need cake, beer and the freedom to cancel plans without being interrogated.
7. You discuss the weather like it personally affects your career
You check the forecast before leaving the house, hanging out washing, making weekend plans or forming any kind of emotional commitment.
You’ve said things like, “We needed that rain,” or, “It’s not the heat—it’s the humidity,” with complete sincerity.
Congratulations. You’re one more conversation about rainfall totals away from becoming your parents.
8. You can injure yourself by sleeping
You go to bed perfectly healthy and wake up unable to turn your head because apparently you “slept funny.”
That’s it. That’s the whole injury.
No sporting accident. No heroic story. You simply used a pillow incorrectly and now you’re booked in to see someone about it.
9. You care deeply about household items
You have good towels that only guests are allowed to touch. You’ve got a favourite spatula. You know which containers have matching lids and which family member keeps separating them.
Nothing sends you into a rage faster than somebody using the fancy tea towel to wipe up pasta sauce.
You used to dream about overseas adventures. Now you fantasise about a well-organised pantry and everyone cleaning the fuck up after themselves.
10. You start sentences with “When I was your age…”
When you were young, things were cheaper, music was better and nobody needed an app to order a fucking sandwich.
You’ve caught yourself telling younger people about dial-up internet, video shops or the fact that your first mobile phone could survive being thrown down a staircase.
They stare at you as though you personally witnessed the invention of electricity.
Welcome to the Old Cunt Club
If you recognised yourself in more than three of these, we’re sorry to confirm that you are officially an old cunt.
But honestly? It’s not all bad. You know what you like, you’ve stopped pretending to enjoy noisy venues and you can leave any event early by announcing, “Right, we’d better make a move.” That’s power.
So embrace the early nights, the appliance excitement and the suspicious knee noises. Getting older is inevitable. Becoming boring is optional.
And if there’s an old cunt in your life with a birthday coming up, skip the boring card. Give them something that says Happy Birthday Cunt, Happy Birthday Bitch, Happy Birthday Dick or simply Happy Fucking Birthday—because age deserves respect, but your mates absolutely do not.
